The Story of Fairy Magic

There was once peace harmony and happiness in the upper realm that the Little People and the Big People shared. The little People (the Fairies,) liked to help the Big people (the Humans) through their Fairy Magic. It brought the Fairies pleasure and joy to see the positive effect that their Fairy Magic had on the big peoples’ lives. Joy and laughter abounded, but that was many many moons ago……………..

As we all know, Humans and Fairies no longer live in the same realm or in on the same plane… some Humans must still believe a little (and hope) that Fairy Magic really does exist, to find theirselves reading a story such as this.

The Humans now live in the upper planes and the Fairies now live in the Fairy Realm in the lower planes. The Humans and Fairies have lived separately for so long now, that very few Humans now believe that Fairies exist. This is what many Fairies had hoped for, (but not all)…. there is still evidence of Fairies and other little ‘strange’ folk such as pixies, but very little. For many Humans this is just the talk of myth, legends, Fairy Tales and make believe and ultimately the fancies of children and simple folk.

No one knows why it all began to change: maybe it was because Humans began to advance in technology and this left less room for Fairy Magic.  The Fairy chronicles recorded that Fairy Magic became something to be scoffed at, even loathed by the Humans. To the adult Humans, there was no comparison to what technology had to offer; they became increasingly drawn to what they understood and what was tangible. The Humans also became increasingly suspicious, even frightened, of Fairy Magic. It should be noted the human children continued to enjoy and relish the ways of the Fairies, but many were now forbidden to associate with the fairies and certainly they were not allowed to receive any gifts of Fairy Magic.

The Fairy Chronicles sadly show human attacks on Fairies; they also recorded that by public decree, the wings were to be pulled off Fairies and Fairies were forbidden to practise Fairy Magic (the Humans believed this would make the Fairies more human). But Fairy Magic was what being a Fairy was all about. However much the Fairies loved the Humans, they felt that they could no longer live in peace, harmony and happiness with them. The Fairy Queen took the difficult decision to find another realm away from the Humans for the Fairies to live in. Thus the Fairies, with sadness, left the realm they had shared so long with the Humans and went to dwell in what is now known as the Fairy Kingdom. The Fairy Queen was so concerned for the safety of the little folk, she decreed that the Fairies were forbidden to visit the upper planes where the Humans lived. This was, as said before, many, many moons ago.

Some Fairies did not want to sever all ties with the Humans, especially with the human children. These Fairies found a way to visit the upper planes by using Fairy Magic. They found that they could create Fairy Portals by going through the lower trunks of trees, especially old oak trees. The trees needed to be enchanted trees and these tended to be found in Enchanted Forests.  If human folk took the time to look, they would be able to see evidence of these portals. Some still practised Fairy Magic on the Humans. The Fairies especially liked to offer Fairy Magic to the human children; for example, silver sixpences left by the tooth fairy. Wishes were also granted when Humans threw pennies into wells: the well water contained Fairy Magic, as the wells extended into the Fairy Realm in the lower planes. As we all know, these have became known as Wishing Wells.

The Humans even penned stories, which became known as Fairy Tales, to tell their children of strange folk that used to live in the human realm. They made clear to the children, however, that these stories were only make believe. For example, the story of Jack and the Bean stalk in which Jack planted a magic bean: the magic bean contained Fairy Magic.

Signs that Fairies visited the human realm sometimes could be found (for those that knew where to look). Fairy Dust was one of these signs- a glittery substance that exuded from the Fairies as they went about their business. Every now and again, Humans caught a glimpse of a Fairy, but when they reported these sightings they were made out to be deluded.

The Fairy Queen did not realise that for Fairies and Fairy Magic to survive, Humans needed to believe in Fairies; so it is important that when Humans make good wishes, the fairies should do their best to fulfil them and then, perhaps, more Humans will believe in them.
